Sometimes the Best Adventures Aren’t the Ones You Plan

After church on a peaceful Sunday morning, I decided to take a little drive. You know, the kind that starts with no set destination and a sense of curiosity in your bones. What was supposed to be a quick detour to find a 15-foot waterfall in Corbin, Kentucky turned into a wild, muddy, memory-making day with my four-legged trail buddy—who always showed me what true bravery and loyalty look like.
We didn’t find the waterfall (this time), but what we did find was so much more.
What We Found: Cricks, Cliffs, and Community

My loyal adventure pup forged ahead—literally. We crossed cricks, climbed steep banks, and wandered terrain that had clearly seen some wild weather. Fallen trees, hidden hazards, and trails that barely seemed walkable became our playground. And through it all, Mr. Jocco Danger reminded me that courage isn’t about certainty—it’s about movement.
Friendly locals helped me try to pinpoint where I went wrong finding the elusive falls (note to self: GPS isn’t always right). But those little chats led to a hidden gem discovery: Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort.
Hidden Gem Spotlight: Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort

📍 Located near the Daniel Boone National Forest and Laurel Lake
This place is a haven for outdoor lovers, offering cabin rentals, campsites, kayaking, rafting, and even ziplining. While I didn’t stay there on this trip, I’m already eyeing it for my return—especially because they’re pet-friendly and right near the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail.

🧭 Travel Tip:
If you plan to explore these areas, wear waterproof footwear, download offline trail maps (like AllTrails Pro), and bring extra towels for your dog and your car. You’ll thank me later.
Why Wandering Matters More Than Arriving
There’s something sacred about getting a little lost—especially when you’re surrounded by God’s creation and have no timeline to rush back. Even when the storm clouds rolled in and we were lightly drizzled on, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. Because these moments? They’re the ones that stick with you.
Hashtag-worthy or not, this wasn’t a glamorous hike—it was gritty, real, and joy-filled. And sometimes, that’s exactly what the soul needs.
